The installation IT WAS A NICE PAINTING THOUGH provides Sander De Keere with an opportunity to play with the museum context of how paintings are being exhibited. The red paint on the palette insinuates that only one colour has been used on the canvas. However, nothing can confirm this, as only the back of the canvas can be seen. What is depicted has to be filled in by the viewer on the basis of a few suggestions. But can we trust the artist’s suggestions?

Met de installatie IT WAS A NICE PAINTING THOUGH speelt Sander De Keere met de museale context van hoe schilderijen worden tentoongesteld. De rode verf op het mengbord insinueert dat op het witte schildersdoek met maar één kleur is gewerkt. Niets kan dit echter bevestigen, aangezien alleen de rug van het canvas te zien is. Ook wat er afgebeeld staat, moet de kijker helemaal zelf invullen op basis van de magere suggesties die we krijgen. Maar kunnen we de suggesties van de kunstenaar vertrouwen?
